The Camouflaged StoryBy STiK The darkness was everywhere, inescapable and suffocating. It's choking grip surrounded even the streaming shells, their second of bright lifedrowned immediately, so  that only the dull explosion remained. Gunfire andscreams were interrupted for a moment, as  a mortar hit nearby. Displaceddirt mixed with the unrelenting rain, but a brief wave of hea t accompaniedthe brilliant flash this time. That the artillery could fell men as treeswas very ob vious, as in the second of light, Goo could see that both layall around. For the first  time in 'Nam, Goo felt the fear, the gnawing fear that hewas alone and vulnera le. He  searched through his memory, back to boot camp.The answer came to him, whispered t hrough the downpour: "The trees... blendinto the trees and they'll never get  you." Goo brought his hands up beforehim and searched for his sleeves. He cou ldn't find his arms anywhere--thecamouflage was still working! Joy welled up with in, but soon a new horriblerealization came over him--the Viet Cong were sh ooting the trees! Bulletswhizzed past his ear, and the fear returned. Goo  began to run, and he keptrunning until he got home. Or something, but it does n't really matter, asyou can't read this anyway.
