Diary of Dreams - Nigredo
I was under the impression that Diary of Dreams would have little, if any, appeal to me. I'd heard and was disinterested in some of their previous releases, and so I began to listen to Nigredo expecting very little. That the slowly began to win me over is an achievement in itself. Diary of Dreams is a band that has followed the evolution of Gothic EBM away from my own interests, musically located right on the border between ebm that I can get into and goth that I can't. With Nigredo, DoD make more excursions into territory that I enjoy, with a sound that is reminiscent of Das Ich. Still a little intense on the dramatic Gothness, Diary of Dreams remains a secret pleasure for me (although printing this review kind of ruins that). It is music that people I know may make fun of me for listening to, but we all have our secret joys.
