Noise Unit - Voyeur
Upon first listen to Voyeur, I was fairly disappointed. I felt it sound like a rehashing of old Noise Unit sounds, and much as I hate to compare bands to previous efforts, to me it sound like nothing new was added: a hopelessly out of date techno industrial album with nothing exciting in it. Phew well then I got the bitchiness out of my system and listening to it a few more times and began to realize that I am an idiot, who has a problem with knee jerk reactivity. As it actually is nothing like that at all, but really a vibrant and fluid listening experience. Now before I become too nice, yes it still does sound like something that would come from Noise Unit, however Voyeur is definitely its’ own beast. A reflective blend of contemporary electronic styles mashed through an EBM(ish) filter (sort of). There is a really nice dance groove through out the album, which requires a certain level of volume to make it just right, to that level where your head bops and your toes start to twinkle. And your mind floats away on the lush melodies. With some angry vocals at times, but I can tolerate those, for the quality of the music. Not instantly enjoyable, but that’s not always a bad thing. Nice for a dreary afternoon, where you need a pick up to lift your spirits a bit, so you can make it for your daily donut and coffee fix, and perhaps you’ll even be inspired to look for work by it. Well okay that might be stretching it a bit, but it is kinetic and infectious to your vibe. A good solid dance album.
