The Protagonist - Songs of Experience
The Protagonist's first release dates back to 1997, way before my time of listening so intently to Cold Meat Industries impressive lineup. Now, 7 years later, his follow up full length CD, Songs of Experience is here for me to behold, listen to, and be damn impressed by. I've been incredibly impressed by everything that Cold Meat Industry is releasing of late. Although my reviews may come across as merely ass kissing, I assure you, it is not without its full share of legitimacy. I am more humbled by their work than anything else. I particularly enjoy The Protagonist's overwhelming sense of the epic.
It brings an almost absurd level of the dramatic to my life, which, in its tedium, could be said to lack that completely. I first really noticed the extreme level of this while stumbling around a convenience store, drunk, listening to Songs of Experience on my headphones. This is music much better suited to grand battles, epic adventures and the like, rather than checking and double checking the ingredients of a package of Sutah Ramen noodles that cost $1.19 plus tax, and yet there you go. This is the apparent soundtrack to my existence.
