Camp 101
Camp 101 was built in 1945, in Hart Twp. upright log
construction, and housed about 100 POW's and a smaller number of civilians. The POW's left
for England in April 1946. The pulpwood from this camp was hauled on ice roads to various
points on the Spanish River. The camp was closed in 1950. Bill explains:
"The triangle is hanging at the front door of the kitchen
and is used to call for meals. As for the pole in the centre, I am not
sure, but I would guess that it is for radio reception from Sudbury. I only was in Camp
101 for about 2 weeks in 1950, helping to inventory and close the camp."
