The best carpet I ever saw was only in a movie, unfortunately. Eve was over, and we were just sitting around watching horror movies with my uncle. It was fun watching horror movies with Uncle Derik, because he would always try and seem totally unaffected until the worst part, when he would run out of the room screaming. Eve and I would just laugh.
Anyway, it was about 1AM or so, and we were on our third movie of the evening, "Night of the Angry Banjo". As I watched the movie, I kept hoping the banjo would get inside the house, but I didn't know why. As he lurked about the grounds around the house, I tried to peak in through the windows and catch a glimpse of something. Eventually, he found an old house key under a water trough, and crept inside the house.
Instantly, my attention was rapt. But not with concern for poor Tristin and her little sister, so seemingly angelic as they played Fish at their kitchen table, but with their carpet. It was a rather thin carpet, really, in a nice light blue shade. I wagered that the individual fibers could be no more than a centimetre long, but they were very nicely spaced. You could see impressions in the carpet - trace with ease where a foot had dragged past, where the family cat had paused for a rest, where the banjo had slid past. In their family room, you could see the indentations where the love seat had once been, and easily spot the area on which the sun would shine, were it day.
Anyway, the girls naturally fled outside into the woods, and the banjo followed, so that was pretty much the end of that carpet fest. I turned off the movie and killed Eve and Uncle Derik, and I went to bed.
