All humanity breathed a sigh of relief.
Here's why:
The hubble telescope was coaxed into working order, and used to gain a much wider view of the Universe. Because of the slowness with which light travels, we could see our own solar system being formed. Once in a while, a small light would emerge from the swirling chaos, stop for a few seconds, and then accelerate suddenly.
It was obviously a space travelling device of some sort.
Thus, we finally had a clue as to the origins of our race.
The first thing I did when I heard of this was to go to my local church, point at it, and laugh and laugh and laugh.
Church-mocking became quite a popular trend in the next few years.
