| Not to boast, but to give you a feel for
what you might expect in Varadero for about Cdn$900, all expenses paid except souvenirs,
tips and day tours - and the flight is included. The resort was Ok from just about any
angle: clean everywhere, spacious rooms, good beach and clear water. Food was generally
good, and even though some dishes were not to my liking, there were always enough
palatable selections to make it an enjoyable meal. Sometimes service was a bit
disinterested, but once such a slow-poke realized a future tip would be in jeopardy,
things started moving again. They need the money... |

Bikes are free, but mopeds and cars cost. I took a bike out one day:
single speed and the saddle too low for comfort, but it moved well. |

The rental cars are newish and suitable for tourist. But the convertible
in the back ground was not for rent, - and that might have been real fun for a spoilt
Norte Americano....! |
| A Canadian partner helped create the Varadero Resort Area in the
seventies, starting with a huge international airport. The leaf in the concrete on the
right may be a hint at that connection... |
