Basic overview:
Humans:
The humans were originally the masters of the plains. The humans are a very strong race, and became so well-suited to dwelling in the open grasslands that they began the wars on other territories in ages past. To wage war in the most ordinary of land formations, they became experts in both weaponry and magic.
Elves do not think particularly high of humans, but the races besides ogres and trolls have forgotten their past transgressions. Humans will never be received well by these savage races.
Cities that are heavily populated with humans include: Berrun, Genjora, Gomme, Laconna, Drye, Medway, and Halooza. Laconna acts as a capital of human culture.

Imps:
The imps were originally the masters of the desert. They were small and agile, but not particularly strong or intelligent. Most people would've thought imps would fare poorly in the great wars of the past, but their wily nature enabled them to survive in great numbers. Imps are a very populous race on Nefaihr, second only to the humans. Though originally suited to the desert, imps can be found pretty much anywhere.
Imps are often stereotyped as thieves, especially in Genjora and Berrun. The imps are segregated in some towns due to this lack of acceptance.
Cities that are heavily populated with imps include: Berrun, Genjora, Drye, Shadowside, Nayo, Agrafen.

Elves:
The elves were originally the masters of the forest. The elves are wise and cool-headed, and their resourcefulness in their homeland, the forest, is what saved them in the great wars. Elves seem more a part of nature than the other sentient races. They have become more adept with magic, and their innate magic is what leads to their long lifespan. Elves try to keep to themselves because they can seldom tolerate the impetuousness of other races.
Elves are usually considered jerks by the other races. The elves do not feel that other races acknowledge their intellectual power, and this often leads to elves being considered egotistical.
Cities that are heavily populated with elves include: Haze, Piars, Genjora, Polarios, Gomme. Haze acts as a major center of elven culture.

Talians:
The talians were originally the masters of the tundra. Talians withstood the onslaught of humans, though perhaps only for the reason that humans were not interested in possessing the tundra. Talians depended on faith though, and once clerical powers were introduced to them, they became the masters of worship. The talians also divided into three factions: the druid, the genji, and the talid. It is said that after a war between the druid and talid that lasted a very long time, the genji sacrificed themselves to end the war. The talid became isolated and have never been heard from.
All talians that people encounter these days are decendants of the druid. They had a very small population and began living among humans. Talian societies are very rare, but occasionally a talian child is born to a human family with some talian genes in their blood.
A talian child being born to a human family is considered a blessing. Talians are rare, but well received wherever they appear. The only known city where real talians still live is Piars.

- Distinctive features: Talians have pretty much the same outlook as humans except for marks on their face. Thin rectangles of light blue run from their noses to their ears.
Ogres:
The ogres were originally the masters of the mountains. The ogres were mostly defeated by the humans except for their mastery of their terrain. Defeated in the foothills and passes, the ogres fled to the peaks. Even in this age, long after the humans had left most races alone, they still persecute the ogres because of their savage (and threatening) ways. The ogres still live only in the mountains.
There are no cities populated by ogres, though they occasionally appear in Berrun. Major ogre territories are in the mountains north of Berrun, and those north of Medway.
As player characters, ogres have the following stat restrictions at level 1:

- Average lifespan: 50 years
- Distinctive features: Ogres are very tall and muscular. If that's not enough to distinguish them, they also all have pug noses.
Trolls:
The trolls were originally the masters of the swamp. Violent by nature, the trolls tried to take over the forests of the elves. Their defeat in these attacks gave the humans an advantage in battling both races. Going after the trolls first, their defeat was a quick one. Very few troll societies still exist. They are extremely spiteful towards both elves and humans, but mostly keep to themselves in the world's few swamps.
The largest concentration of trolls is in the Darkmere Swamp, north of Berrun and west of Haze. Trolls don't usually speak the common tongue. Trolls do not get along with humans at all and are not really recommended player characters.
As player characters (God forbid), trolls have the following stat restrictions at level 1:
Strength: minimum 8, maximum 25
Agility: minimum 2, maximum 19
Vitality: minimum 12, maximum 28
